10 Tools To Make The Most Of Twitter

Living without Twitter is something that I couldn’t imagine anymore. The amount of great people that I have met through there is just incredible. What I appreciate the most is the large number of targeted people you can reach interested in the same topics as you.

10 Tools To Make The Most Of Twitter

Yet, as we spend more and more time on Twitter it can easily consume a lot of our time. Here are my 10 top tools to make the most of your time on Twitter.

10 Tools To Make The Most Of Twitter

Tweet Without Flooding Your Followers

Buffer is a new way to send out tweets more conveniently. Whenever you are reading an article on the web, you can throw it into your Buffer and it will be posted for you well spaced out over the day. I love that you will never flood your followers with too many tweets at once.

Make the most of it: With Buffer’s browser extension (Chrome, Safari, Firefox) you can add tweets from any website, inside Google Reader and even Twitter.com.

Create Blogposts from Tweets

TweetWally is a very interesting app that allows you to collect tweets from your followers and turns it into a TweetWall you can post as a blogpost. Or you can simply use it to know who is interacting with you the most. Particularly if you are handling a rather large and engaged account it is super handy.

Make the most of it: In case you came across Storify too, then the great advantage of TweetWally is that you can customize your tweets with it.

Read Tweets Clutterfree

Refynr comes in very handy to also read tweets in a filtered way, now that you are sending tweets without flooding. You can set up key words for tweets that you want to be showing up in your stream, such as “webdesign”, “startups” and “Twitter” in my case. Only read the most relevant tweets containing these terms.

Make the most of it: The great part about Refynr is that it is mobile optimized and even ties in with Buffer above.

Google Alerts for Twitter

Have you ever had the need to track important terms coming up on Twitter for your brand, competitors or interest groups? Twilert works very similar to Google Alerts and allows you to set up notifications if certain terms or hashtags are mentioned on Twitter.

Make the most of it: Twilert’s search terms are very customizable and go so far as even setting the sentiment of certain tweets being mentioned to show up only.

See Who You Engage With The Most

Commun.it is a very new tool that is currently in private beta. Yet applying for an invite is highly recommended. It will show you who you are interacting with and which people amongst your network are mentioning your brand. The best part is that you can even see who is a potential lead for your products or services.

Make the most of it: You can easily see who is unfollowing you and who started following you, something I find very helpful to track.

Analytics for your Twitter Account

TwentyFeet is a great tool to track your overall performance on Twitter. Imagine it like a Google Analytics, just for your Twitter account. You receive very interesting graphs on details such as retweets, mentions and followers and how they are changing over time.

Make the most of it: What I really enjoy is the very clean daily email coming from TwentyFeet. It highlights the major changes that were unexpected.

A Twitter Powered Digg

This is another recent find that I really enjoy using. XYDO immediately feeds your twitter stream into their App and creates a new newsstream for you. You can upvote or downvote articles and they are naturally ordered by how often your followers mentioned them.

Make the most of it: XYDO gives you a very handy daily brief on stories which I really enjoy as it gives you only the most relevant stories of the day.

Find the Best Times to Tweet

Tweriod is another all time favourite I think needs to be in every toolkit. It gives you some very interesting insights about the best times of the day and days of the week that you should be tweeting. The great part is that the algorithm includes both yours and your followers past tweets, which makes it highly comprehensible.

Make the most of it: The app is so simple and straightforward that all you do is sign in with Twitter and get the finished report DM’ed to your inbox.

Spring Clean Your Twitter Account

ManageFlitter allows you to unfollow all those people that don’t follow you literally within seconds. It gives you even more insights into who is no longer using Twitter, who is clogging up your stream or who appears to be a spammer.

Make the most of it: This App has one of the cleanest UX around. All you do is sign in with Twitter and unfollow dozens with just 2 clicks.

Onepage, Customised Analytics Dashboard

Even though you might be reminded of the above mentioned TwentyFeet this tool offers a quite different functionality. The app distinctly focuses on overlaying various metrics to ensure that not only your followers are growing, see if mentions and retweets are in line too.

Make the most of it: Twitsprout creates one page for you that you can share with anyone and even customize with your own logos.

Sum Up

These are my favourite Apps and I hope they will be useful for you too. Let me know if there are any additional ones you are using. Always keen to know about the latest tools and Apps.
