Some Ways To Use Usability Tests

Usability Testing

Test a competitor’s site

Ever wonder what your users think of the competition? Conduct tests on any website, including another company’s. Then take that information and improve your own site.

Find out fast

In as little as one hour you can have impartial feedback on any website (including mobile sites and apps) that can be used over and over again. The tester is given a set of instructions to follow and questions to answer and you can even ask follow up questions after the test is over.

Show a client how their website really works and pinpoint where it doesn’t

Have you worked on a site that needed major changes, but you had trouble convincing the stakeholders to buy in? Run a usability test to show what impartial people think of their interface. Nothing motivates a team like watching a website visitor get lost or frustrated.

Compare before and after

Clients often question whether a redesign is an improvement. Measure the impact with usability test videos of real people using their site before and after.

I am currently working on a small feature set of a larger application. I am a bit leery about the final UI and would love to test it, just can’t get the boss to fork over the cash..

This would be a great way to show the business how effective testing can be!

As a small business & self taught designer. I would love to test my own website. I know its functional & gets the job done, which I am very proud of, but it would be nice to test the site. This would also give me feedback allowing me to correct & update the site for better turn over.

As a small business owner, user testing would help me immensely to know how to optimize my business site so that customers are more likely to click-through and purchase products. I can find out how effective our layout is for current and potential customers.

I’d love to see Usertesting’s results on the app we’ve been working hard on: (still in BETA).

Seeing the results of our website would be great,
but more interesting would be the results of the signup process & the app itself!

We ask our BETA users but actually considered using Usertesting a few times.

I guess being a bootstrapped business it would be awesome to see how much value the service provides for a startup like ourselves…off to tweet: )

Having worked with UserTesting in the past, not only to find usability concerns but to prove the validity of existing problems to project managers and stakeholders in order to get the green light to start fixing them, I will be using a handful of tests for my upcoming web app, which will soon be entering public beta.

Working on a team of two–a designer and a developer–UserTesting essentially fills in as another employee, taking a good deal of legwork and guesswork out of the strategy and design process. Testers who have performed previous studies through UserTesting not only found a good deal of problems with our products, but offered insightful tips for improving them as well. I doubt I’ll ever go through with a product ever again without first consulting UserTesting at least a few times.

Since my current app has two components, an OSX desktop app and a web app, I wonder if we’ll only be able to use this service for the latter? I know I wouldn’t want to install something to my hard drive every time I had to run a usability test for someone else.

Still, even if it’s just for the web app, this service will be invaluable, like it has been in the past.

I’m confused. In your post it says: “The contest ends on Monday, 24th October 2011.”

It’s only Oct 23 here and it says the contest is closed and winners are are awarded.

Are you located in Singapore? If so that would make sense.

Congratulations to Wally, Adam and Clifton!

Thanks Adam, and congrats to you as well! I checked out Mail’ette a while ago, and it looks really elegant and useful. I’m sure we both will get a lot out of the tests we got from this contest.
